Regard
Nicolai Panayotov a grandi et a été formé aux arts dans la société communiste de Bulgarie. A soixante ans, il vit depuis plusieurs années en France et est aujourd’hui un artiste internationalement reconnu. Il associe ses deux cultures et continue d’être français et bulgare. Lui et sa femme ont ouvert un centre artistique dans un ancien bâtiment scolaire à Sofia, en Bulgarie, qui comprend une école et une galerie.
Alors que son travail peut évoquer le modernisme de Joan Miro et Pablo Picasso, Panayotov identifié à Jean-Michel Basquiat et Keith Haring, qui (s’ils étaient en vie) seraient à peu près ses contemporains. Son travail partage la verve du dessin animé et l’immédiateté de leur meilleur travail. La majeure partie des pièces de ce spectacle sont des toiles sans cadres, verticales dans le format, s’accrochant comme des rouleaux, en partie pour honorer l’intention de l’artiste « de libérer » l’art du cadrage statique, permanent qui prévaut dans les musées.
